Most facilities are available as a resource for visiting schools/groups for hire.

Workshop

The Centre has a large shed type facility that is excellent for a range of workshop facilities such as welding and fabrication including:

  • Seven welding bays and a large demonstration bay that allows arc, mig, tig and oxy welding (welders - Strat & Transarc)
  • Range of workshop tools needed for maintenance and fabrication projects eg.  Drill press, pedestal grinder, bender, cut off machine, bandsaw, compressors, angle grinders, drill, work benches, mechanics tool kits, vices, gantry and endless chain
  • Demonstration engines both small and multicylinder (Honda and Briggs and Stratton).

CROPPING AND FODDER CROP AREAS

  • Used for vegetable production, broad acre cropping eg. Sweet corn, potatoes, winter cropping eg. Wheat, barley.  Crops are also used for trial work
  • Fodder paddocks are used for animal production.  These consist of summer and winter grazing crops eg. forage sorghum, improved and native pastures

NURSERY

  • A large production nursery with a range of facilities eg. Greenhouses, shade houses, misting equipment etc.

ORCHARD

  • A small orchard consisting of a range of trees for demonstration and production purposes eg. stone fruits, citrus, avocadoes, olives, apples etc.

MAJOR EQUIPMENT, MACHINERY AND BUILDINGS

  • Tractor
  • Tillage equipment eg. Disc plough, offset harrows, rotary hoe
  • Planting equipment
  • Spraying equipment eg. Boom spray and knapsacks
  • Small garden tools eg. Spades, forks, rakes etc
  • Range of storage sheds, feed sheds, bins

The carefully planned integration of these facilities into the Agricultural programs ensures students have access to suitable resources to provide a range of meaningful learning experiences.

The Centre also has a small book and video library as well as a computer laboratory of 10 computers all connected through an internet network.  


Cattle Handling

  • Extensive yards, crushes etc to support the cattle activities at the Centre
  • Specialised weighting equipment for recording data (TruTest) with Industry standard electronic scanning and recording.
  • Small commercial herd (approximately 25 breeders on a leased property 3km from the Centre.  The breeding herd consists of a range of different breeds eg. Limousin and crossbreeeds.  Stock are brought into the Centre as required
  • Led Steer - consists of led steer preparation for both local and State shows where steers are either selected from the Centre's breeding stock or bought in from local producers.  A commercial fitting service exists for stud producers. The main aim is to demonstrate production of animals to meet the local trade markets. 

Sheep

  • The Centre keeps a small number of different breeds as breeders eg. Suffolk , Texel , Dorest Downs and buys in store lambs when needed for fat lamb trails 
  • There are extensive yards, crush and weighing facilities present.

Goats

  • A small goat herd is kept for demonstratio purposes, these being predominantly Boer x goats.

Poultry

  • Both intensive (battery hens) and extensive (free range) birds are kept
  • A range of breeds are kept and the birds are used for not only egg production but also trial work eg. Broiler production.

ALPACAS

  • A small number are kept for demonstration purposes and sheep herd protection.

HORSES

  • Horses are kept at the Centre at various times for teaching and mustering purposes.

BEES

  • Two hives are kept for students observation and production.

AQUACULTURE

  • A couple of small tanks with freshwater crayfish is kept for student demonstration as well as local fish species.
