Facilities

 

All facilities are available as a resource for any school (Primary, Secondary, Special Ed.) wishing to use them They can be hired at any time provided it is available and not being used by other schools. Refer to hiring of facilities.

The main welding/workshop facility in particular is a very useful facility that could only enhance school programs if schools had the opportunity to access this facility.

Centre staff members could also be available to help with classes provided it did not clash with other permanent Centre arrangements.

Workshop Facilities

The Centre has a large shed type facility that is excellent for a range of workshop activities such as welding and fabrication. Some of the equipment available:-

  • seven welding bays and a large demonstration bay that allows arc, mig, tig and oxy welding
  • demonstration engines both small and multicylinder
  • range of workshop tool eg. drills, press, metal cutting bandsaw, vices etc that are needed for fabrication and maintenance programs.

Cattle Handling Facilities

Cattle handling facilities consist of a range of extensive yards, crushes etc to support the cattle activities at the Centre. The beef cattle enterprise consists of led steer preparation for both local and State shows where steers are either selected from the Centre’s breeding stock or bought locally. There are approximately 25 breeders at present consisting of different breeds eg. Limousin, Murray Greys and crossbreds.

  • The Centre also has a small Murray Grey Stud.
  • The Centre has TruTest electronic scales which record a large range of information that is available as download files eg breeds, DOB, weights, weight gains, animal health records etc

Sheep

The Centre keeps a small number of different breeds as breeders (eg. Suffolk) and buys in store lambs when needed for fat lamb trials.

  • There are extensive yard, crush and weighing facilities present.

Goats

A small goat herd is kept, these being predominantly Cashmere x Boer goats.

  • The Centre is working towards establishing a purebred Boer Goat Stud.

Poultry

Both intensive (battery hens) and extensive (free range) birds are kept.

  • A range of breeds are kept and the birds are used for not only egg production but also trial work eg. Broiler production.
